I have personally helped many people build their presence on LinkedIn – grow their connections from 0, or near nothing to 500+.
As I embarked on this journey for my own LinkedIn profile many years ago, I realised that it’s not all that hard and the more work I put it into optimising my setup and use of LinkedIn, the more work LinkedIn started doing for me.
As a project manager, business process and digital marketing consultant by profession, I am getting more and more requests from my clients to help their staff improve their use of LinkedIn to generate more business. Now the added bonus to this for the individuals I work with is that I’m helping them build their personal brand – helping them improve the visibility of their name and skills in the professional networking sphere known as LinkedIn. It’s a WIN-WIN, and also additional motivation for the individual to spend a bit of time focusing on making their LinkedIn profile work for them.
Why most people fail and how I can help you change that
A lot of people, like with any other social media platform, often create an account, then find it too cumbersome to add information, and use the platform as a means of interacting with others regularly. I’m here to tell you that if you have been one of these people, I can help you change that – in fact I’ve helped many people change that.
How you ask? Well, it’s fairly simple. The reason why people often start things and leave them unfinished is because they are doing too many things in the first place. Most importantly, more often than not, they aren’t clear on their reason for doing it. That’s where I step in. I help you clarify your objective for wanting to use LinkedIn and see if it actually has the potential to help you reach that objective (and if not, I move you along – to save you time and save me time).
So case in point – if you want to use LinkedIn to build your personal brand, can this be done? The short answer is ‘Yes.’ The trick is in how you do it, and I help you go through the steps systematically, but also on a realistic and sustainable timeline based on your existing commitments and workload. How much time you put into it and at what pace depends entirely on how soon you want to achieve your objective. In any case, it’s important to note it does not happen overnight, and it does not happen without a continued, focused effort on your part.
What does it mean to ‘Build Your Personal Brand’?
LinkedIn can help you build your professional presence and showcase your work, your skills, and abilities to those you most want to and need to connect with. I know what (free) features of LinkedIn can help you build your personal brand and I take you through 5 key steps to get you on your way.
I show you how to:
- Identify why you want to use LinkedIn and determine if this aligns with what the platform can do for you
- Optimise your information on your LinkedIn profile so you can have an ‘all-star’ profile
- Make meaningful connections on LinkedIn to build your professional network to 500+ people
- Prepare and publish relevant and engaging content on LinkedIn and drive traffic to your personal or business website
- Customise your LinkedIn Feed so you follow groups and people who matter the most, staying abreast of the latest trends in your industry
In general these steps are achievable in 1-3 months. That’s the result I’ve had with my clients, helping them reach 500+ connections, but those who have been immensely successful after growing their network, are the ones who continue the recommended work based on a sustainable schedule I have helped them set.
Remember, I show you how to build your personal brand, but you actually need to do the work. Unlike many other consultants out there, I’m not offering to ‘write your resume’ for you. Take that approach and you’d be cheating yourself. You know your self best. I use my experience and knowledge of LinkedIn to guide you through the best practices for writing your profile, growing your connections, publishing content and keeping up with industry trends.
Sound like too much work? Initially it can feel that way, but trust me, you will appreciate this approach – learning how to do it and in the long term, it will make your life easier. My goal is – by the time you’re done working with me, I want you to be okay on your own. I nurture my clients, bring them to maturity and confidence in the process, then send them out into the wild. That’s my style.
